Make Up Monday: 5/18

I am loving a few of my favorites from when I had the Sephora VIB sale a few months ago.  One of the things I was super excited to get during the sale is the Sephora Kiss Me Balm in Soda Pop.  Emily Noel on YouTube’s Beauty Broadcast raved about it, and for good reason!  It is built like an EOS balm and has the slightest tint of color.  It looks pretty dark, but it actually is a nice pinky tint.

THE BEST PART is that it is called soda pop for a reason–it smells just like a Dr. Pepper!! It is basically the grown up version of the Bonne Bell Lip Smacker Lip Gloss, Dr Pepper.

I love the way this looks on my lips!  It is a little bit more adventurous than usual, but in a good way.  It’s not too outrageous, so obviously it’s a step in the bolder direction.

This is probably much better as a late summer to fall color, but when I want to go lighter with the eyes, this is a good darker lip to balance out the rest of my face.

Yes, I love to sniff my lip products.  It really does smell like some good ole Dr. Pepper!

Book of the Month: May

No real fun reading book this month, kiddos.  I had a sudden realization that I was depressingly behind on my continuing education and this book happened to come in the mail for me to complete my CE hours.

20150525-095604.jpg

I have to complete 15 hours every year before renewing my license, however half the year is over and I have done exactly ZERO hours.  So, for the time being, it’s time for me to be an adult and play to my responsibilities as said adult.  I hope to be reading something fun next month!

School Supply Re-Do

I know you’ve seen them.  those fancy gold school supplies lurking in the aisles of Target from the Nate Berkus Collection. But really, who has $20 to spend on a pair of scissors.  Not I, said the grad student in six figures of student loan debt….

So, what is a college grad to do, with a whole bunch of school supplies she amassed over 10 years and a bottle of gold spray paint that she used to re-furb a bunch of other stuff for her cubicle? Oh yea, spray paint my existing office supplies gold…duh.  And unlike other bloggers, I did not buy super fancy things to destroy.  These have literally been sitting around since I have been in high school.

These push pins have TOTALLY been around forever, and yet I can’t seem to get rid of them.  Until now.  The scissors however, I accidentally took with me from my old cubicle at my old job.  No one noticed though, so I’m just gonna go with it.

DSC00756

Since I have an aversion both to the outdoors and staining carpet and furniture, I used a small cardboard box and sprayed everything inside of it.  I pushed a few pins into the cardboard to keep them upright and covered the metal part of the scissors in duct tape, because I did not have painter’s tape, though I swore up and down that I did.

DSC00759

Whatever I did, it got the job done.  I wish I had actual painters tape, because some paint did seep in below the seams and I got a ton of sticky duct tape residue on the blade– not exactly ideal for scissors.

A few dollars later, I ended up with some pretty good dupes for the Nate Berkus line of office supplies.  It may not have the reflective metal shine of the actual line, but it’s shiny and it’s gold and it goes well with my current office decor!

WIW: Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day always ends up being really stressful for me.  Besides the fact that I have always struggled to please my mother (#mommyissues, is that a thing?), I have a whole slew of women who helped raised me.  It literally took a village to raise me.  From running around town to buy flowers and then deliver them, and then eating here, and eating there, then taking my real mom out to dinner, I had to dress for comfort and the weather.  IT WAS SO HOT ON SUNDAY! mothersday

I finally got to wear my Lilly for Target shift dress.  The material is obviously thinner than standard Lilly, but it was still durable and breathable.  I threw on my favorite pair of Jack Rogers Women’s Glitter Navajo and slung a cross-body bag on.  I definitely needed both hands with the flower deliveries, and I did not want to be weighed down by the heavy straps of a Longchamp.

I also was having some eye problems, soooo glasses it was….

Gym Time Savers

Going to the gym in the morning is kind of a challenge when you think about the fact that you have to go to work shortly thereafter.  In my case, I have trouble getting to the gym on time in order to get a decent work out in and still get ready for work in time.  To maximize my workout, I love the little short cuts I can take in order to get ready.

1) Daily facial cloths are quick one-step ways to wash both your face and your body without having to lug around two products and a loofah into the shower stall.

2) L’Oreal Paris Studio Secrets Professional The One Sweep Eye Shadow are definitely the biggest time savers when you want a nice blended look without any of the effort.

3) ELF Lotion wipes also cut down on the number of bottles you have to bring with you, as well as the time it takes to make sure you get lotion in all your nooks and crannies.

Make Up Monday: 5/11

Sometimes the best finds come from little accidents.  When I went on my Ole Miss trip, I literally forgot everything at home.  By everything, I mean my liquids bag, and by my liquids bag, I mean my foundation and concealer.  Last week, I highlighted my foundation that I discovered because I had to buy one down in Mississippi on a whim.  At the same time, I also had to buy some concealer to cover up the serious bags under my eyes from dealing with the delays at the airports.  No thanks.

Once again, I turn to YouTube for all the rage in drug store make up to help me guide my ways.  The Maybelline Master glaze is something highly touted online.  So much so that they didn’t have any in my shade so I still bought one that was too light for me anyways.

Once again, that turned out to be a happy accident, as I could use it as an under-eye concealer as well as a highlight.  It covers so well and comes at an inexpensive drug store price!

Color of the Month: May

Goodbye, dark nail polish. HELLO BRIGHT PASTELS! I am so excited for warm weather and light colors.  This month’s color pays homage to the lovely cherry blossoms of last month, the warmer weather, AND the new Princess of Cambridge. DSC00736

The color is Essie’s A French Affair.  I first found out on Cupcakes and Cashmere literally four years ago and have loved it ever since.  When I first got it, i found it really hard to work with and found it to be very streaky and unmanageable.  UNTIL I FOUND THE BEST TOPCOAT KNOWN TO MAN. Yes, I am talking about the wonderful Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Nail Coat.  The trick is to use it while the polish is still wet and it kinda just…fixes all the imperfections and gives it a hard and shiny finish.

Daily Dose: 5/8

I am so happy to get back in the groove of blogging again.  For the first six weeks of my new job, it has been bang-bang-bang with no rest, and I felt like I didn’t have time for anything else.  It was definitely a new adjustment and I had to find a new daily routine, which for the time being, didn’t include blogging.  I also was so wrapped up in the new job that I really didn’t even have anything to blog about, and felt the blog was going no where.  All I ever hear from my sister is, “why do you blog? do you even get paid?”  It’s hard to explain to someone that it doesn’t happen automatically.  Most, if not all, bloggers kinda just start out writing under the radar for the first year or two.  In my case, three years is creeping up.  It’s still a wonderful outlet for me to share my life and my ideas.  I hope for many more things to come.  In the mean time, here are some happy moments from this week:

Made reservations.  This is the one time the spot was actually reserved and untouched, and addressed me by name. Fancy.

Another trip to the Sno Cream bus! We cannot get enough!

The new routine: breakfast smoothies from the NutriBullet RX, yogurt snacks, and chicken and vegetables for lunch. #domesticated

When your blog is real life and you wear your go-to Spring outfit to work, because there was literally nothing else to wear.

Have a great weekend!

NutriBullet RX

You know I love anything that has “RX” tagged onto the end of it (Lexus RX, the official pharmacist car).  That being said, I was recently in the market for a blender.  The Vitamix is a little out of my price range, so we were looking for something more along the lines of the NutriBullet or Ninja.  We really wanted the functionality of a super blender that could make soups–because we are that lazy.

I originally went into Bed, Bath, and Beyond for one of the regular NutriBullet models.  My BF refuses to go for the one they had at Costco because “the motor isn’t good enough.” He’s right.  The one at Costco is a 600-watt motor.  We had planned on getting a 900-watt NutriBullet at BBB until we asked an employee his opinion on all the blenders.  We had mentioned wanting to make soups with it, so he pointed us in the direction with a blender with that capability: The NutriBullet RX.

DSC00746 Magic Bullet NutriBullet Rx N17-1001 Blender, Black

Well….we have yet to make any soups with it, but we have been going to town on the smoothies!  The blender comes with a recipe book for smoothies and soups, so we are giving those a go-around.  We have a smoothie every morning and it’s pretty tasty!  We’ve been trying “The Tummy Tamer,” as it comes as an easy transition into smoothie life.

DSC00743

I just load up all the ingredients in one of the cups (3 sizes), attach the blade, and invert the cup into the motor.  We also got a hefty upgrade on the motor–1700 watts!  The smaller cup makes about two servings of a smoothie, and enough to fill up to of the large Tervis cups for us to take to work.
DSC00744I had trouble cleaning it the first day, but one of my co-workers suggested I throw in a bit of dish soap and cycle it through the blender a few times for it to heat it and become its own dish washer–it comes out absolutely shining after a spin and a rinse under the tap!  Cleaning it is probably my favorite part.

We love it so much, we are getting it for his mom for Mother’s Day!  She is having some issues with her teeth, so it’s been all smoothies and soups for her lately.  With the easy use and easy clean up, we’re hoping her day goes by a little smoother when she uses it. <Insert “look at all this extra time I have for my family!” infomercial spiel> Saving tip: the blender is $200, with a 20% off coupon that basically never expires, it became $160.  Before I go anywhere to make a big purchase, I always see if my credit card company has a gift card I can redeem with my points to use.  I could use a $100 gift card, so the blender came out to about $60 for me!

We’re super excited to try out new recipes, but for right now, we are really enjoying “The Tummy Tamer.”  The recipe below makes two servings:

2 cups of spinach

3/4 cups grapes

3/4 cups pitted cherries

1/2 cup oatmeal

1 TBSP chia seeds

1/2 cup pure apple juice (can only find at whole foods so far)

1 1/2 cup water

I bought this NutriBullet RX myself and is not affiliated nor sponsored with the makers of NutriBullet or Magic Bullet.

WIW: Sorority Cop

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you may have seen that I recently went down to Ole Miss to play sorority cop.  Disclaimer: Not a real sorority, just the National Pharmacy Fraternity I was part of in Pharmacy school that is predominantly women.  I am one of the national vice presidents, so I get to go to different chapters and see how they are doing.  After one canceled trip due to snow and delayed flights due to tornadoes, I finally made it down there.  I had to pack comfortably but professionally and ended up with this outfit:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this similar floral blouse that I got from Target on a whim (LONG STORY!) and paired it with a teal skirt and a navy cardigan.

The trip was lovely and the campus was beautiful.  It was the same weekend as their Spring Game and I, unfortunately, did not get to stay to watch it.  It was so lovely being back in a real college town.  Luckily, one of my BF’s friends works for the university, so we cannot wait to come back for some real SEC football!

The best and most relaxing part of my trip was the drive to the airport.  It was a beautiful open country road and the bluest skies outside of Phoenix (I have a strange love for Phoenix).  I think I found my inner Southern Girl. Virginia is the South, though, right?
